Do we need to make nature more beautiful?

Although I was skeptic at first about photo editing, I got really excited about all the cool things one can do with a few clicks. But after I played around a bit I really started to ask myself, do we really need to make nature more beautiful than she actually is and why?

Fact is that really unrealistic photos are kind of “in” right now, photos that show magical fairy-tail like looking places around the world. I’m also kind of found of such photos, I just can’t help but think: “wow, it’s so beautiful and magical, like another more perfect world”. In this post you see some examples of such photos (via pinterest and evgeni dinev photography).

Here I picked up three beautiful places in Bulgaria for you, because I have visited all three of them, so I have some idea of how they really look like. These three places are really beautiful and magical in real life too, but not in the way they are on these pictures. Their natural beauty is kind of replaced with some more ideal and painting-like beauty, which is more beautiful, but less touching, moving and emotional…

Doesn’t this remind you of something? To me it sounds like the situation we currently have with beauty and fashion photography, which is still dominated by unreal looking doll-like faces, that don’t really represent the real people behind them. That’s how I feel about these magical landscapes too – they look perfect and beautiful, but they don’t really remind me of these places in the real life, they are like their ideal presence in a parallel universe, that just lacks some soul and heart…

So are we on the way to create unrealistic expectations on nature too? Is a “normal” landscape picture just boring in this overstimulated modern world? Do people actually go to visit places based on such pictures? Do they feel disappointed when they are actually there or do they take this reality-picture differences for just normal and edit up their photos afterwards too, so that the place looks magical again?

How do you feel about it?

Peace or fuck you?

Since I am driving to work now instead of riding the bus for hour and a half, I’ll be sharing some episodes on the road and on the bus with you in the near future. So here is one from today:

I was waiting on a red traffic light on one cross-way today. One other car was coming behind me, as the traffic lights turns green.

peace sign

Instead of waiting for me to start rolling, this other car just went in the opposite direction lane without blinking, so that it wouldn’t have to slow down and slid in front of me. That was pretty annoying and I wanted to give him the bird. Since I stated driving there were a bunch of situations like this, where I wanted to let other drivers know, that they aren’t driving correctly. But I was always to busy with driving as it is, so that I never managed to give someone the finger or flash him the lights, because I just didn’t have enough attentional resources to do it. But today I was just waiting for a traffic light, as he slipped in front of me, so my attention was not that concentrated on the road. So this was my moment, finally I could give someone the finger for behaving badly on the road!!!

And so I did, only to notice, that instead of giving him the finger, my hand was showing the peace sing. Because of the way I am holding the wheel, my other finger was also standing up. So this asshole was getting the peace sing from me. And in that moment it hit me. This was kind of even beer then giving him the finger. Driving is so aggressive anyway. You deal with aggression the whole time and you have to be a bit aggressive too in order to keep up. A peace sing was much more what this and all other aggressive drivers needed.

So if you really want to show it to someone, show him a peace sing for a change 🙂

Let’s get it started (again)!

Hello there again,

although I never really said goodbye to this blog, I would like to say hi again 🙂 And commit to writing again regularly. And I mean like really commit and really regularly. Have you heard of the iron blogger community? If not let’s wrap it up for you:

It’s a blogger community, where everyone commits to writing at least one post per week and if one does not, he has to pay a fee of 5€. The money is being collected, half of them go to regional charity projects, the other half goes for beer for the blogger meetings. So as I don’t have any money to throw out, I will be writing at least one post per week in the future.

I’m really exited about it. I didn’t blog for so long, because I’m kind of not satisfied with myself and it was difficult to put this dissatisfaction out or writing anything honest with it in me. But now I accept, that not talking about it only makes it worse (duh), so let’s start the talk again.

See you soon sometime next week 🙂
